This
course is designed as an introduction to Shakespeare’s festive comedies. Focusing on two plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth
Night, we will explore a variety of issues (the green world, desire and the Law, love and sex,
rule and misrule, gender roles...), paying regular attention to
performances, adaptations, and rewritings on stage and screen.
